[Women’s Liberation Movement]. “THIS EXPLOITS WOMEN.”

Two sheets with seven (of eight) rectangular stickers, each with the message printed in black in large, decorative letters, each sticker 20.5 x 7.8 cm with a black frame on a white background, [ca. 1970] (minor stains).

A series of stickers for pasting over material offensive to women – one of the stickers missing, presumably used. As told in a contemporary Time Magazine article: “Militants are getting into the act by defacing offending ads in buses, subways and on billboards with stickers proclaiming, THIS AD INSULTS WOMEN, Or THIS EXPLOITS WOMEN. Admen like to hold by formulas that they consider successful. But some executives in the business believe that they ultimately will have to take account of the feminine protest. ‘In advertising,’ says Dr. Robert Wachsler, a psychologist on the BBDO staff, ‘we will have to show women less as women and more as people.’” “Advertising: Liberating Women”, in Time Magazine, June 15,1970 (online, available 12/1/24).
