Very rare suite of hairstyles from the 18th century, complete with its 24 plates enhanced with watercolor on waxed paper, all captioned “Joh. Martin Will exc. A.V.” (Augustae Vindelicorum).
Printed and published by Johann Martin Will (1727-1806), an engraver from Augsburg, this work aims to inspire hairdressers. Each style is a hair feat full of fantasy where the hair is meticulously sculpted to reach heights, adorned with carefully arranged curls and braids, intertwined with ribbons, feathers, and other luxurious accessories.

Nicknamed the Prince of Hairdressing, Alexandre de Paris, born Louis Alexandre Albert Raimon (1922-2008), became famous by putting his talent at the service of prestigious Haute Couture houses (Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Givenchy, Dior, etc.), of crowned heads (Princess Grace of Monaco), and of the biggest stars of stage and cinema (Audrey Hepburn, Lauren Bacall, Liza Minnelli, Shirley MacLaine, Greta Garbo, Maria Callas, Sophia Loren, Arletty, Michèle Morgan and Romy Schneider). His friend Jean Cocteau designed his logo and the typography of his name.
Rubbed head of spine, some foxing and small stains, mainly on the last plate : minor defects for a complete and extremely rare copy.
