Rare second edition of letters by Philip Melanchthon, Wittenberg 1574

Alter libellus epistolarum Philippi Melanth [onis]. Editus Witebergae, cum gratia et privilegio caesareae maiestis et ducis saxoniae Electoris.

signed dedication of Caspar Peucerus from April 1570. Caspar Peucer is a German scholar of the 16th century, son-in-law of Melanchthon, whose works he published, born in Bautzen on January 6, 1525, died on September 25, 1602.

Printed by Johannes Crato (Johna Krafft died in 1578).

This is the second volume of Melanchthon’s letters, the first edition of which is dated 1570. The edition of the reformer’s letters will know, in the modern era, six volumes published between 1570 and 1646.
