A reference study on the material civilization of the inhabitants of the United States from 1784 to 1861. We can only think of Fernand Braudel when reading this masterful work. For example, doing the state of the USA in 1784, McMaster presents the functioning of the posts, and further on transport.

Volume VIII contains the story of the California Gold Rush. And of course, step by step, the constitution of the country from east to west.

A first edition, published around 1885, included six volumes. Ours brings together the first six volumes in a 1917 edition and volumes VII and VIII are in the original edition (1910 and 1914).

From volume III, a summary of the cards contained in the volumes follows the tables: t.III, 2 cards, t.IV, 6 cards, t.V, 5 cards, t.VI, 3 cards, t.VII, 8 cards , t.VIII, 4 cards. Volume II has  map. All maps color and folding.
