






First edition of this comprehensive history and description of the ‘Fruchtbringende Gesellschaft’, the first and largest German language academy.
Description: Contemporary limp vellum with yapped edges. Spine lettered in ink on paper label. Duodecimo: 17 × 10 cm; pp. [24] ll., 480 [i.e. 476] pp., [39] ll. With 33 copper engraved plates (frontispiece portrait plate, title page, 5 portraits, 22 illustrations, 4 armorial plates, with a double genealogical illustration in the text, several decorative initials and tailpieces. Title page printed in red and black. All edges red. ¶

Condition: Vellum on the front stained, spine label with tear and some loss. Contents slightly toned. Pages 97, 311, 371, [477] with small paper loss at lower margin but not affecting text.
