New York, Dodd, Mead, & Co, 1926 Reprinted from the Fourth Edition of the legendary Captain Charles Johnson’s General History in two volumes. This edition in one volume is lightly edited by Arthur L. Haywood. “Charles Johnson” published the first general history in 1724. The authorship is tentatively attributed to Daniel Defoe. This edition is oversized with rough cut pages under black boards stamped with the skull and crossbones. Eighteen illustrations (facsimiles of the originals), over 600 pages. Includes front and back matter including an index. Fans of Johnny Depp will recognize the hero of Pirates of the Caribbean from the frontispiece. Other than a dedication on the front flyleaf the book is unmarked and tight throughout. Issued without a dust jacket.. Really a unique volume practically unavailable otherwise. Extra postage is required (this is a thick, heavy book). For pirate fans, a gift for yourself or for an appreciative friend.
