The children’s classic. First British edition, first printing, fourth impression January-July 1914. Eight illustrations by Charles Robinson. The illustrations are intact with tissue guards present. Unmarked and clean throughout. No tears or nicks. Pastedown to front flypaper records this copy was awarded to a Cambridgeshire schoolgirl. Hint of detachment of front boards less so with back boards. Green boards, gold lettering on front board is still bright. Lettering and floral motif on spine somewhat faded. The unique feature is the original dust jacket printed with Robinson’s illustration and the publisher’s London address. Jacket is torn in places and inexpertly mended. There is some creasing to the rear panel and a couple of chips to the lower spine. However its survival, in reasonable condition, makes this copy practically unique. You may look hard and long without finding a comparable item offered for sale.
